Which Batman Comic Should I Start With?

If you are new to comics or just want to try something new, picking up a Batman comic can be daunting! Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939 and the first official Batman comic came out in 1940! With so many years since then, how do you know where to start reading?

    Batman: Year One
    A fantastic origin story for Batman.
    The style is simple and well written.
    The panel layouts are easy for you to follow, which is important if you are new to
    comics.




















    Batman: Hush
    Intro to the "modern Batman".
    There is a large use of gadgets and technology.
    Quite a few villians if you are a fan of Joker, Riddler and Harley Quinn.





















    Batman: Court of Owls
    Although recent, this is a masterwork that is going to go down as one of the great runs
    in Batman history.
    A modern version of Batman with a heavy use of technology.
    Asks: What would happen if Gotham city itself were against Batman?
    Phenominal art!

    Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
    One of the seminal books in Batman's history.
    Not an easy read.
    Expects you to know a few things about Batman's history.
    Deals in 1980's politics.
    Great for those who have read other comics first.




















    Batman: The Killing Joke
    One of the best known Joker stories.
    Extremely dark storyline.
    A groundbreaking book when it was released.
    Great to read if you love the Joker, after reading a few others.
