Set in the wartorn land of Tairngir, it's a rambling epic which frequently seems to change direction without ever really deciding where it's going. The principal character, Caed, begins life as a crow before being transformed into a human being by an unnamed druid, who subsequently dies, leaving Caed to travel for a time with his daughter, Bethbara. Ultimately, Caed and Bethbara end up on seemingly opposing sides.
